Report 2014

The Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Bob Burgess, a player in the tournament in 2010, opened proceedings with the presentation of a special award to Jean Fox in recognition of the invaluable work she and her late husband Ron have done on behalf of British marbles, which she accepted on behalf of them both. The tournament was also named in Ron's memory this year.

The one thing the struck me this year was the number of high breaks in the tournament.

The highest break was 34 from Halim Tata, as third member of his team he won the game against Gabi’s Gang, with Louie, Andreas and Zachary not even having a shot in the tournament.

In the second match Darren of the 49ers had two breaks of 18 & 12 to win the game. Paul Smith had separate breaks of 12, 23, 12 & 27 and Chris and Mauli of the 1st MC Erzgebirge had breaks of 13 each.

Not all games are won with high breaks; in the second semi final the 49ers won in just one round scoring 2 - 0 - 7 - 6 - 8 - 3, a total of 26 marbles.

14 teams took part in this years Championship, including an angelo German team Gabi's Gang and 1st MC Erzgebirge.
